A healthy lifestyle includes physical and emotional (or mental) human health, which work well together. The main components of a healthy lifestyle include:
- Lack of bad habits
Getting rid of bad habits is the first and most important thing a person can do for own health and increase life expectancy. For example, smoking and alcohol cause great harm to health, increasing the risk of developing different diseases. Most likely, you don’t want to be a young and sick person. Therefore, it is better to quit bad habits right now.
- Proper nutrition
A healthy diet is another important part of a healthy lifestyle. Proper nutrition involves the consumption of healthy foods, as well as limiting the amount of consumed fat, salt, sugar. The main part of the diet should consist of fruits, as they contain many vitamins and minerals. Consumption of healthy foods strengthens the immune system, reduces the risk of developing many diseases, and helps in the treatment of the gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular system, and diabetes.
- Physical activity
Exercises make a major contribution to a healthy lifestyle, as movement is the key to a successful life. Daily exercise for 30 minutes not only improves body shape but also helps prevent different diseases and increase bone strength. Sports also stimulate the production of the hormones of happiness “endorphins”, which reduces stress, anxiety, depression, improves self-esteem, mood and overall mental health.
- Weight control
The correct weight for each person depends on factors such as gender, height, age, and genes. A healthy body mass, defined as a normal body mass index (BMI), should be between 18.5 and 24.9. Being overweight increases the risk of a wide range of diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Regular exercise helps control weight and loses extra pounds.
- Stress management
How a person feels physically has a great influence on his/her state of mind. So, having stress, physical health and energy levels deteriorate. Therefore, it is important to relax after emotional stress in an effective way (exercise, sleep, or walk) in order to prevent depression and anxiety. Researches have shown that people who take time to rest are more resistant to stressful situations.
- Rest, healthy sleep
To maintain health, the body needs good rest and healthy sleep. Lack of sleep and chronic fatigue can lead to many health problems, including obesity, diabetes, and other diseases. Long-term lack of sleep reduces the immune system and the body’s ability to withstand colds, flu. A person needs 7-9 hours for a full sleep. Healthy sleep also contributes to physical activity. Just 10 minutes of aerobic exercise (cycling, walking in the fresh air) greatly improve the quality of sleep. Scientists have found that one component of a healthy lifestyle already increases the life expectancy of people by 2 years. Consequently, the more people have healthy habits, the longer they live.
